Anonis aim undecidedHeadlines
Annonis

Margaret Mullins is considering the next plan of attack with Anonis following his impressive bumper victory at Cheltenham on Sunday.

The six-year-old had been sidelined by injury since being narrowly beaten in a Thurles bumper in March of last year, but produced a magnificent performance on his comeback to win what looked a warm Listed race by five lengths.

The obvious target would be a return to Prestbury Park for the Champion Bumper next spring, but as he will be a seven-year-old at the turn of the year, he does not qualify for that contest. Mullins is weighing up whether to give him one more run in the National Hunt Flat race sphere, or send him straight over obstacles.

She said: "He's home and out in the paddock and seems in good form. He's obviously had problems but he seems to have taken his race well, which is the main thing.

"He's a very big horse so maybe the time off has just given him a bit of a chance to grown into himself as well.

"We haven't made any definite plans with him. We'll give him three weeks off and I'll talk to Barry (Connell, owner) about it.

"He could go to Leopardstown at Christmas and run in the bumper there, or we could go straight over hurdles.

"We'll take it a day at a time and he'll tell us what's the best thing to do. He's a nice horse to have and I think he'd handle better ground as well."
