Hereford are to hold a lunchtime inspection today ahead of Thursday's jumps meeting after an inch of rain fell in a matter of hours.
The course is heavy, waterlogged in places, and to make matters worse a culvert (a type of drain) that runs through the centre of the course has burst.
"We've called a 12.30pm inspection because we are waterlogged in certain areas of the track," said clerk of the course Keith Ottesen.
"We've had 25 millimetres of rain. At 6am we'd had 15mm which I thought wasn't too bad, but it didn't stop and then intensified and we've now had an inch of rain.
"We are waterlogged in places and there is a culvert that runs through the centre of the track by a golf course and the sports field. Unfortunately there is a burst on it which isn't looking good at the moment. We are investigating that right now with the council.
"The latest forecast we've got is for it stop raining around lunchtime today and then hopefully the course will take care of itself, but the water table is incredibly high."
