Exeter rained offHeadlines
Exeter

Thursday afternoon's meeting at Exeter, featuring the rescheduled Peterborough Chase, has been abandoned due to waterlogging.

An 8am inspection was called by clerk of the course Barry Johnson but incessant overnight heavy rain left him with an easy decision to call the meeting off early. The course has been hit with 46mm of rain in 24 hours.

"It is still absolutely hammering down and we are due another 10mm before 11am," said Johnson.

"There's no point delaying it, we've got no chance of racing so we may as well call it off now. It's so frustrating, it was a good card, especially with the Peterborough Chase which may have only had five runners but it was an interesting race."

The British Horseracing Authority has confirmed it is looking into the possibility of rescheduling the Peterborough for a second time.

A BHA Press Office tweet read: "BHA are looking in to possibilities for again rescheduling the Peterborough Chase after racing at Exeter is cancelled due to waterlogging. "
