Conan set for Dipper runHeadlines
Captain Conan

Captain Conan is likely to be stepped up in trip for the Dipper Novices' Chase at Cheltenham on New Year's Day.

Nicky Henderson's exciting novice won a Grade One over hurdles last season but was always expected to excel over fences.

He already has wins at Cheltenham and in a Grade One at Sandown last time out under his belt, and with Simonsig also in the Henderson yard the trainer is keen to assess his options.

"He's in the Wayward Lad (at Kempton), but his owners are over here for New Year and we think we will run him in the Dipper at Cheltenham on New Year's Day," said Henderson.

"It's possible we'll find out how he gets on over two and a half. We've always felt that might suit him, and obviously that will suit us to find out where him and Simonsig belong, and I'm not just saying it because they have to split up, but it makes sense to do it if you can.

"If Conan gets two and a half, which I would expect him to, then that helps."
