Moffatt seeking Morning gloryHeadlines
Jimmy Moffatt

Morning Royalty will test the water in Graded company for the first time in the williamhill.com 'Supreme Trial' Novices' Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday week.

A smart bumper performer in Ireland for Willie Mullins, the six-year-old disappointed on his hurdling debut for Jimmy Moffatt at Hexham but has since come good with two impressive performances at Carlisle.

The Cartmel trainer acknowledges Morning Royalty must raise his game if he is to complete a hat-trick in the race better known as the Rossington Main Novices' Hurdle, but feels his star turn deserves a step up in class.

"I've discussed it with the owner Mrs Milligan and she is keen to raise the bar slightly," said Moffatt.

"We'll go there cap in hand as some of the big yards will have runners in there against us, but we're keen to give it a go.

"Although he has won his last two on a right-handed track, both myself and Brian (Harding, jockey) think he might actually be better going left-handed, as he does just have a tendency to go to his left.

"He had some very strong bumper form in Ireland for Willie Mullins and what I want to do is get him to the same level over hurdles.

"He has shown he handles heavy ground well but, looking at his action, I have a hunch he will go every bit as well on good to soft or good ground."
