No Dubai trip for OrfevreHeadlines
Racing action

Japanese superstar Orfevre will not be making the trip to Meydan to contest the Dubai World Cup in March.

The five-year-old heads ante-post lists for the world's richest race having been so narrowly denied in the Prix de l' Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp and the Japan Cup towards the end of last year.

However, connections have decided Orfevre will instead be campaigned in his homeland this spring before returning to France for another crack at Europe's premier middle-distance prize in October.

Speaking to the Japan Racing Association, trainer Yasutoshi Ikee said: "Travelling to Dubai in March was one of his options, but if he runs in Dubai, he has to complete several days quarantine procedures.

"Also he suffers from losing weight by travelling more than when he was younger. We have judged that travelling to Dubai would not be good for him this time.

"He has recovered well in the private yard - Northern Farm Shigaraki - and will be back to my stable in JRA Ritto Training Centre in late February or early March."
