Kentford Grey Lady will try to go one better than 12 months ago in the 1942 Was A Vintage Year Mares' Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.
Emma Lavelle's seven-year-old went down by half a length to Violin Davis at the Berkshire track in 2012 before finishing second behind Quevega in the OLBG Mares' Hurdle in March.
"Ascot is very much the plan. This has been her target all the way through and we ran her at Sandown (third to Une Artiste) just in case Ascot wasn't going to be on," said the Andover trainer.
"In a funny sort of way I'm glad we did even though we got beaten. But on Saturday three miles is definitely much more her trip and she just got touched off last year and hopefully if it is on she can go one better this year."
Lavelle also has Easter Meteor in the BetVictor.com Handicap Chase on the same card, but might not risk last month's Doncaster winner if she feels the ground is not suitable. And, like Kentford Grey Lady, Cheltenham is the main priority for Easter Meteor.
"The ground would be key. We wouldn't run him if it wasn't decent ground and with the weather the way it has been at this stage it is not totally ideal, but we will see what happens," said Lavelle.
"He is definitely a horse that wants nice ground and he runs well fresh.
"He's gone up in the weights now but he will definitely get in at Cheltenham for the Byrne Group Plate, so it could be that he might go straight there. We'll see what the weather does."
