Monday's National Hunt meetings at Plumpton and Catterick are both subject to inspections at 8am on raceday morning.

Officials at Plumpton decided to take a look after 12 millimetres of rain had been recorded by 2.30pm on Sunday on top of five millimetres overnight at the East Sussex venue.

The going on the hurdles course is described as soft, heavy in places, with the chase course soft.

The potential problem at Catterick is snow. It is likely to fall on higher ground and miss the North Yorkshire track, but clerk of the course Fiona Needham feels it prudent to have an early check.

She said: "Everything is fine, but we felt it safe to call a precautionary in the morning because of the potential threat of snow. The forecasters think it is more likely to fall just on higher ground, but they are not 100% sure, so we had better check.

"Hopefully we will arrive first thing in the morning to find we don't need an inspection."

Meanwhile a contingency plan to stage an all-chase and bumper card at Lingfield on Tuesday is to be implemented after the hurdle races were abandoned due to waterlogging.

The fixture will include the three chases already scheduled plus three additional chases and a National Hunt Flat race, which will be run on the all-weather track.

Clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross said: "We've had steady rain all day. At 2pm we'd had just over five millimetres and it's still continuing to rain. The hurdle course is waterlogged, which was expected with any rain, but hopefully we will be able to race on the chase course, all being well.

"Tomorrow is relatively dry with possibly the odd rogue shower, but there's certainly some snow around in the forecast tonight and it's been a wet day, so we will be in a better position to assess things tomorrow after we see what tonight brings."
