Leicester declared a washoutHeadlines
Leicester Racecourse

This afternoon's meeting at Leicester has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Course officials were left with no option but to draw stumps following a course inspection just before 8am.

The track had sustained 15 millimetres of overnight rain.

Clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson said: "We could have coped with five or six millimetres, but not 15.

"The ground is absolutely desperate."
