Trainer Paul Messara is hoping Ortensia has a bit of luck when she returns from injury at Caulfield on Saturday.
The globetrotting Australian speedster warms up for a crack at wonder mare Black Caviar in the next couple of months in the Oakleigh Plate at the weekend.
It will be her first race since she sustained an injury in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock in September. The eight-year-old suffered an overreach during the six-furlong feature, resulting in a one-inch cut in her leg as she finished well beaten behind Society Rock.
Although the damage was not too serious, it was a disappointing end to a highly successful campaign that saw her win the Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai, the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and the Nunthorpe at York.
Messara admits it will not be easy for Ortensia, the mount of Craig Williams, from stall four on her comeback outing.
"In some ways I would have liked to draw out because then you don't have the worry of trying to get out to make your run," Messara told www.smh.com.au.
"With the big weight (Ortensia) cannot get stopped because they will be going too quickly to overcome any bad luck. We have the right jockey in Craig to make sure things go right.
"She is up to the mark but we are looking at races further into the preparation.
"She will come back to Sydney for the Challenge Stakes (next month) after this run and then we will take on Black Caviar in the TJ Smith, when she will be at her peak."
